Clostridium difficile

Hello, my name is C. difficile.
I'm an anaerobic, Gram Positive rod that can make spores.
I live in your digestive tract.

I cause pseudomembranous colitis.
Sometimes if you take broad spectrum antibiotics (especially clindamycin and the cephalosporins) you kill off your friendly bacteria.
That leaves lots of room for me.
I make toxins that cause very bad inflammation.
You get diarrhoea, abdominal pain and a fever.

I covered myself in a white membrane like coating that can be seen on the inside of your intestines.

hallo i've just found your blog and as a microbe torturer i thought you might like this little ditty, it is set to supercalafragilisticexpealidocious and goes; Pseudomembranous colitis makes your arse atrocious, even when you get treatment your bowels will get necrosis, and so on and so on. My work buddies and I have made up a load more microbe related parodies if you are interested.

Hi

This is so incredibly innovative. I'm going to forward this link to everyone I know in my Microbiology department.

Could you make one on Azotobacter please? We are doing a project on isolation of mutant strains of Azotobacter with greater N2 fixing ability, you see. So it would be great if we could get a poem on the bacterium.

Cheers!
